International Women’s Day Event 2023
This year 2023, the theme for International Women’s Day is #EmbraceEquity.
In today’s society, it is critical to focus on gender equity, and it needs to be a part of every society’s DNA.
It is also vital to fully understand the difference between equity and equality.
Therefore, the aim of the theme #EmbraceEquity is to get the world to discuss Why equal opportunities aren’t enough. To ensure true inclusion and a sense of belonging, it is necessary to take fair actions, considering that people come from different backgrounds. Find more about it here.
We give equity a huge embrace. And we can all play a part. Each of us can actively play a part in supporting this campaign and embracing equity.
Joining this IWD 2023 #EmbraceEquity theme, we had a successful and insightful evening event celebrating International Women’s Day on 8th March 2023 at Hope Street Xchange!
We were so thrilled to welcome many women joining us to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness about discrimination and take action to drive gender parity.
Our guest speakers include:
- Sophie Milliken MBE (Smart Works), CEO and Founder of Moja
- Kylie Dixon from the Northern Lass Lounge
- Claire Goodliff and Deb de Luen, Founders of Amazing Jane Activewear
And our guest panel include:
- Izzy McDonald-Booth, Craft and Design, Retail Manager at the National Glass Center
- Evelyn Uche-Mark, Public Health Enthusiast, Associate Tutor at the University of Sunderland
- Justine Gillespie, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Manager at the University of Sunderland
We received great feedback from those who attended this event. Attendees included staff, students, tenants, aspiring women and small business owners joining the night to share different perspectives, celebrate their achievements, and get their businesses out there.
”The speakers Sophie Milliken MBE, Amazing Jane Activewear Kylie Dixon and the panel Izzy McDonald-Booth and Evelyn Uche-Mark were so inspiring, each sharing their stories and experiences of being in business and how equality and equity had affected them both in their lives and careers. Following on from hearing the speakers, I had some great conversations and networking. It really was an evening with inspiring women.”
”It was great to hear from some inspiring females, including Evelyn Uche-Mark, who showed us how we shouldn’t just accept the pay gap and Kylie Dixon and how she inspires a lot of females every day.”
”Last night, I attended a brilliant and inspiring event at Hope Street Xchange. It was great hearing about the rollercoaster journeys of Sophie Milliken MBE, Amazing Jane Activewear’s Claire Goodliff, Deb de Luen and Kylie Dixon.
